EMDR Intensives: Deep Healing in Less Time

Traditional weekly therapy can be powerful, but for some people, shorter sessions leave too much unfinished—just as you're getting into the deeper work, time is up. EMDR intensives offer a way to move through healing more efficiently, giving you dedicated time to process trauma in longer, focused sessions without the usual interruptions of weekly therapy.

If you struggle to shift into trauma processing in a short session, find yourself stuck in old patterns, or want to address something quickly without dragging it out for months, an EMDR intensive might be a good fit.

What Is an EMDR Intensive?

An EMDR Intensive is an extended therapy session—ranging from 3 to 6 hours in a single day—designed to help you process trauma more effectively. Rather than working in small increments over months, intensives allow you to focus deeply and move through more significant healing in a shorter period of time.

Who Might Benefit from an EMDR Intensive?

How It Works

Step 1: Consultation

Before scheduling an intensive, fill out the screening questionnaire to help me determine whether an intensive is the right fit for you. I will then reach out via email with follow-up questions or to schedule a quick phone call to discuss fit further.

If we decide an intensive is right for you, then we’ll have a one-hour consultation to:

  • Identify what you want to work on and whether a half-day or full-day intensive is best.

  • Develop a customized plan for your session, including any additional modalities we may integrate (such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic work, or art-based processing).

  • Ensure you have the coping skills and support systems needed to engage in deep trauma work.

Step 2:  Intensive

A one-day intensive can be either 3 or 6 hours, with built-in breaks to keep your nervous system regulated. We will move through all eight phases of EMDR, targeting a specific memory or theme. The pace is up to you.

In a 6-hour intensive, we will take a 1-hour lunch break, and you are welcome to bring snacks, cozy clothes, and grounding items.

Step 3:  Integration

Healing doesn’t stop when the session ends. You may experience insights, dreams, or emotions surfacing in the days after an intensive.

  • If you are seeing another therapist, I encourage them to join a follow-up consultation so we can transition the work back into your ongoing therapy.

  • If you are not currently in therapy, I offer a one-hour follow-up session to help integrate what we uncovered.

  • I provide resources to help you regulate your emotions and continue processing in a way that feels safe and supported.

How do EMDR intensives compare to weekly therapy?

In weekly therapy, we process trauma in small pieces—which can be helpful for some people but frustrating for others who feel like they never get to the core of the issue. In an intensive, we stay with the work for longer, allowing deeper shifts to happen in days instead of months.

Can I do an EMDR intensive if I already have a therapist?

Yes! Many clients continue working with their regular therapist after an intensive. If you’d like, I can coordinate with your therapist to ensure that what we work on is integrated into your ongoing care.

Who is NOT a good fit for an EMDR intensive?

If you are in active crisis, struggling with severe dissociation, or lacking a stable support system, a weekly therapy model may be a better fit. We will assess your readiness together in consultation.

How do I schedule an EMDR intensive?

  2. Book a consultation – We will make a plan for the intensive, including identifying goals and skills to work on.

  3. Schedule your session – Choose between a 3-hour or 6-hour intensive.
